A Cork Artefact

At the last meeting of Muskerry Local History Society, Michael Lenihan brought his collection of tram memorabilia.
The Cork Tramway and Electric Light Company was set up in 1898. The biggest problem for the trams at the beginning was that thy shared the road with horses. The horses were scared of the trams.
As well as tram tickets he had a picture of a tram. You will notice a kind of viewing gallery on top. This drew the ire of the clergy as women standing there had their ankles on view. The tram company installed “decency boards” along the railing . These were in time used for advertising.
