The Albury Banner and Wodonga Express
Aug 27 1909 • Wodonga, Albury, New South Wales, Australia
Death of Rev Father Leahy. The death occurred in Sydney on Monday of Rev. Father Daniel Leahy, who was well known in Albury and many other parts of the Goulburn diocese. Father Leahy was born in Knockanure, County Kerry, Ireland, in 1866, and was therefore only 43 years of age. He came to Australia about 18 years ago, his first mission being in Goulburn, subsequently serving at Cootamundra, Albury, and Wagga. For the last seven years he has been in charge of the Koorawatha district, and was greatly beloved by all classes in his extensive parish. About eighteen months ago the deceased left on a trip to see his people in the old country, where his father and other members of the family are still living. On his return he seemed to be in the best of health and spirits, but time ago he caught a severe cold, which greatly prostrated him, and before he had recovered caught another chill in attending the obsequies of the late Rev. Father Lane. Becoming seriously ill, he proceeded to Sydney to consult the best medical authorities, entering by their advice the Lewisham Hospital for treatment, where he died. Deceased was a brother of Dr. Leahy, of Wagga. The funeral took place at Wagga on Wednesday morning, when a solemn requiem Mass was solemnised at St. Michael’s.
